Radford University’s 24th annual Advocacy Day in Richmond continued the longest-running tradition among Virginia’s four-year public institutions of student-led engagement with state lawmakers to advance issues critical to higher education as well as initiatives that benefit all residents of the Commonwealth.

This week in Highlanders in the News: Self-starter Stacey Price ’99, M.S. ’01, adds another link to her growing entrepreneurial chain; and Roanoke social worker Danielle Austin-Johnson, ’13, M.S. ’18, lends her profile to a local work of art. 

Radford University has completed a successful accreditation process with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), earning a 10-year reaffirmation from the SACSCOC Board of Trustees during its annual meeting on Dec. 3.

The total economic impact of Radford University on the Commonwealth of Virginia was a staggering $421.7 million in FY2022, with $390 million remaining within the region.

One hundred and ten years after Ellen Nora Hubble journeyed from her Smyth County, Virginia, home to Radford, her great-grandson, Matthew Turner, completed courses for an MBA in business analytics, placing him, along with his two sisters and brother, among four generations of Radford graduates. But there’s more to the story. Turner is also a professor of communication at Radford, who chose to challenge himself by earning a degree in “something completely different.”
