Every two weeks, Highlander Highlights shares with readers some of the extraordinary research and accomplishments happening on and off campus through the tireless work and curiosity of our students and faculty.

For Department of Counselor Education Professor Wally Scott, this camp has all his favorite things.

A common thread wove through the fabric of the annual Faculty Convocation on Aug. 18, with many speakers at the event focusing on efforts to stabilize enrollment and further solidify Radford University’s position as one of the premier institutions of higher education in Virginia.

Rachel and Roberto Santos have built a policing model from practice and research that provides police leaders around the U.S. a clear path for institutionalization of crime reduction. They’ve also established a crime analysis and criminal intelligence minor designed to help Radford students build a foundation of knowledge and skills that is already translating to careers as law enforcement crime and intelligence analysts.

New and returning students reported for the upcoming semester across the third week of August, a process that, by all accounts, moved smoothly. It was facilitated by Highlander help, careful planning and special events. 

The Highlanders’ animal therapy team will review potential new members through Aug. 30.

The Executive Leadership Academy, open to just three dozen education leaders each year, prepares its attendees to develop skills and rise to positions of higher responsibilities. Since its founding, over the past decade and a half, more than 100 individuals who have completed the ELA program have since been appointed as university presidents or chancellors.
