No Subject Posted by Omar lol... yo Brian I will need alot of help, like I said last week. Second of all I am just diversity coordinator, nothing special. Third of all, I thought you were joining the Islam club where we would talk about the plan there and take a position. Fourthly, yes but diversity is not just for Muslims and it's for everybody and I do not want to be seen as taking the position only to help out Muslims but for everybody. Fifthly, anyone who wants to help out can help out with any ideas. Sixthly, we are having a Q&A forum so do not worry. Seventhly, good article but I am not worth the praise... all good is from God and the bad comes from my own self. Wassalam buddy. (Now you all can diss me for the next 7 days - but I forgive you anyways). LOL!!! Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader So "Diversity" on campus will mean "Islam 24/7"? ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!! No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader When will Burquas become required? No Subject Posted by Omar "There should be a week that would enlighten and inform the students and faculty at RU about the religion and culture of Islam." there is absolutely no money to do that unfortunately. "During the week, there should be festivities, food and, most importantly, information about Islam." yes hopefully we are going to have some of that but again we have a funding problem with that. "I hope that Omar Hossino will let me take part in his plan and mission to allow diversity at RU. This plan is not only his or mine but should be the school's as well." the Islamic organization will do that and I am sure you will have a high-level role in it knowing your commitment and work ethic. As Diversity Coordinator I have to work on a larger scale than one culture and religion's programming and I will try to organize cooperation between the groups. " One person can not do this alone. By giving Muslims a chance to speak, it is one step to embracing diversity. It's time to take the articles that were written, address them orally to the school and project the voice instead of keeping it within an online magazine. If something is an issue or a problem, you treat it with importance; how else would anyone be able to fix it? Without a voice, how can we encourage knowledge and understanding of diversity?" extremely smart words and I totally agree. "and hope that he listens and is open to anyone who has ideas for the future" yes that is what I have been doing for the past two weeks is connecting with the different groups. I have connected with Jews, Christians, Muslims, Homosexuals, Liberals, Conservatives, Blacks, Africans, International students, Provost-candidate Dr. Griffith, and others to listen to what they have to say and try to get them to help each other out. In the end it depends on if people actually want to work together or not. I might not have talked to you about the subject Brian but rest assured that your views are valued just like everyone else's but there is a whole campus filled with diverse peoples that I must speak to as well. No Subject Posted by Omar So "Diversity" on campus will mean "Islam 24/7"? ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!. No, and this is not what I am intending. Nor do I believe it is what Brian is intending to say he is just putting up a plan in action. I will promote everyone's diversity and not just Islam's. Islam will be promoted by the Islamic club coming next semester which is totally seperate from my role as Diversity Coordinator. It is the students in the end who affect diversity and not myself, if they do not want to work together then I cannot make anything happen. Anti-semitism is another horrible cancer on this campus and there have been anti-semitic incidents in dorms and things happen to various students. The Jewish people on this campus do not seem to have that much of a voice as well and I will try to hear their concerns. My job is basically one thing - to hear your concerns and tell them to SGA and to organize the organizations to meet together and cooperate. I am not hear to just "promote Islam diversity" and Brian's program can simply "take over" for the Islam club and he can try to work with that with those interested. I am here to listen to concerns by any students of diverse backgrounds. I will have to work with the important positions of ISAC President Rochelle Pennington, and BSAC President Sabrina Shelton for example and listen to their concerns. I am done on Whim for the week, I have major finals studying and my computer is broken so peace out. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader "I am here to listen to concerns by any students of diverse backgrounds." Somehow, I don't see the GLBT or the Feminist community running to embrace you, any more than they would run to embrace Erskine if he were diversity coordinator. No Subject Posted by The American Left This was a pointless article, in the perspective of the Left. If you really wanted to write this up (I think you might have just had nothing to write about and done this last minute, as is obvious) you should have just given it to someone who could use it. This doesn't belong on Whim. Omar's article was enough on the subject no matter what your opinion is pretty much. Maybe if your article was a different opinion like Erskine it would have been better but yours is just borrowing off Omar adding a few things in and making it only apply to Muslims. The American Left is an equal opportunity criticizer No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader Great. So we'll "celebrate diversity" by importing a culture that makes the Far-Right Pat Robertson/Jerry Falwell type of people look like card-carrying ACLU members. After this is done, we'll expect the Jewish community, the GBLT community, and other minority communities with a long history of being persecuted at the hands of other Muslims (remember SS Division Handschar? Didn't think so...) to come out into this "warm and welcoming" atmosphere. What's next? Bringing in advocates of involuntary female "circumcision" / genital mutilation? I suppose we should count our blessings that a Neo-Nazi Skinhead wasn't appointed to be "diversity coordinator". I miss the old days, where "diversity" meant bringing out groups like NORML. Yeah, they were a bit strange. Sure, they (and their "cigarettes") smelled funny, and their dress style, while colorful, was a bit odd to many. But at least they didn't scare the hell out of the other minority groups. I'm not gay, and I wouldn't dare to speak on behalf of RU's GBLT community. I have, however, had some positive dealings with the GBLT community at RU in the past. I remember how careful they were (I'd say "paranoid", but you're not paranoid if they really ARE out to get you) about simple things like arranging meetings so that nobody in the straight community knew what was going on. Now remember, this was before the Matthew Shepherd murder. I am sure that the same forces are at work today, only moreso, and I'm almost POSITIVE that there aren't going to be a whole lot of people in the GBLT community that will feel comfortable with what's going on. No Plan Just Talk Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader How do you expect to do all this? What exactly will you do? There is no plan above just talk. What have you done and what can you do for diversity? No Subject Posted by Blake People, there is nothing wrong with diversity. I don't get why everyone seems to jump on Omar and Brian everytime they write an article because they happen to be Muslim. Chill, people, chill. Blake's Blog No Subject Posted by Ray Have yall heard of those sweet laws they have in Europe making it a crime to insult Islam? That would be awesome if this new group could try to push some of those rediculous laws on us here. As someone pointed out on my last article, "it's only paranoia if you are wrong." You give them an inch and they take a mile, you'll see. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader Ray, have you heard of all those laws which make it a crime to deny the holocaust or make fun of it? Europe has higher decency standards than us. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader "I don't get why everyone seems to jump on Omar and Brian everytime they write an article because they happen to be Muslim." I don't care that they are muslim. What I care about is their acceptance of violence against women, spousal rape, requiring women to "submit", et cetera. Brian told us that he was doing a series on different cultures. Yet it's the end of the school year, and all he's done is try to make Whim the 24/7 Islam website. He hasn't done "different cultures", he's continuing to prostheletize about Islam and ONLY Islam, and somehow I don't see him stopping until somebody else pulls the plug on him. Brian and Omar appear to me to be helping (along with the fundie Xtians) to create an atmosphere where certain people at RU are literally forced into hiding out of a desire to NOT become the next Matthew Shepherd. That is NOT what I think "diversity" is supposed to be about. "Diversity" is supposed to be about accepting all minorities, not accepting representatives of two of the largest religions on the planet, and letting them rail against homosexuals and other "sinners" (promoting "justice" where "justice" as practiced in real life is hanging or beheading homosexuals for being gay) while driving those groups "back into the closet". No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader "There should be a week that would enlighten and inform the students and faculty at RU about the religion and culture of Islam." HOW? HOW will you do this? Do you have resources, what are your connections, are you a communicatory personality? Do you know other people who can help out? Have you started talking to people? If not then HOW? IF you don't have a HOW you don't have a "plan" I am sorry. There should be a Q&A forum where students could ask any question about Islam and Muslims, and questions should cover every topic. Please read the newspaper, the Tartan page 5, it seems as if your idea has already been organized. Molly Wadell wrote a peice on it. I hope that Omar Hossino will let me take part in his plan and mission to allow diversity at RU. I cannot speak for Omar, but why should he? Who are you? Which club do you head, which organizations do you know, which skills do you have, what experiences do you have? How can you help him? Why do you want the ignoral of the entire campus except for you to help Omar out. Did you ever think there are other minorities on campus other than you? What makes you such a "big shot." No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader "That would be awesome if this new group could try to push some of those rediculous laws on us here." Why would they have to? They've already gotten our "champions of free speech" to self-censor for fear of being murdered in the street like Theo Van Gogh.
No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader Brian and Omar are not threatening homosexuals with death and making them fear for their lives and endangering them. This statement was libel and accuses criminal charges on them. I saw both Brian and Omar at the Diversity Rally and Omar was wearing a ribbon. I know the President of Spectrum, Jinx, and she knows Omar as well. So please refrain from accusatory comments. And yes Brian was a little retarded and should have written about other cultures instead of 24/7 Islam. I understood Omar's perspective as he was showing us parts of his religion gradually and in sequence but some of Brian's articles seemed to just be "islam and (think of word here)." No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader "Brian and Omar are not threatening homosexuals with death and making them fear for their lives and endangering them. This statement was libel and accuses criminal charges on them." I suggest you read what was posted a bit more carefully. No Subject Posted by Brian S. What makes you such a "big shot." Well I can ask you the same question: Who are you? I don't have to post under "Some Anonymous Whim Reader" to make a point. This post was just a waste of space, time and energy. Thanks for reading. No Subject Posted by Brian S. The response above me was for Some Anonymous Whim Reader but since there are so many Anonymous readers, I think you know who you are and can read the response that I wrote. Thank you. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader Did anybody else notice that this article is called "Diversity for muslims", and not something like "Diversity for everybody"? No Subject Posted by Brian S. "And yes Brian was a little retarded and should have written about other cultures instead of 24/7 Islam." We have a lot of ignorant people at Radford University. I just never knew that we had this much. Anyways, I will continue the "Different Culture" series next year and explore many many other cultures. It's no biggie! But at this time you just have to wait. Thank you. No Subject Posted by Whim Reader If you noticed, last week Omar wrote an article about Diversity for "Everyone" so why should Brian write another article about that. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader "If you noticed, last week Omar wrote an article about Diversity for "Everyone"" And this week he wrote an article railing against "moral decay", and promoting "righteous conduct" and what I can only translate as "family values". I do wish that he had spelled out explicitly what kinds of "moral decay" he was opposed to, and what kind of conduct he considers to be "righteous". No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader "If you noticed, last week Omar wrote an article about Diversity for "Everyone" so why should Brian write another article about that." I agree thats why im not reading the article. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader "You give them an inch and they take a mile, you'll see." Whats wrong with that, let them take over our world and take out our culture, it's getting quite old anyway, paranoid freak. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader " Well I can ask you the same question: Who are you? I don't have to post under "Some Anonymous Whim Reader" to make a point. This post was just a waste of space, time and energy. Thanks for reading." I have the right to be anonymous and to raise real key issues. You did not respond so you obviously have no skills (except for writing), no experience, no position, and no connections. If I asked the heads of every diversity club on campus who you were would they know? Then why are you babbling and trying to get some big shot position. Do you speak alot to people and have good communication skills? Do you know how to make friends and make connections with people? Do you know the people who work in diversity at Radford? Do you know the clubs, do you have experience in programming events at all? Do you have experience in networking? All are fundamental questions. What I have got out of your article is this "yap yap yap, I have no skills but since Omar is my friend I need to be the no.1 helper of all Muslims on campus for diversity and here is my plan on Whim magazine for everyone to see it" there are other Muslims on this campus then you and Omar, give it a break. No Subject Posted by Whim Reader Shut up Anonymous Whim Reader and give it a rest you douche! Stop wasting space and time and go back to whatever you were doing. How come when someone wants to help do something, that person gets accused of trying to be a "big shot" and trying to get some kind notice. Brian, do what you need to do and don't listen to these people who are trying to bring you down. You don't seem to have good communication skills yourself. Why can't you say this in front of Brian yourself? Why do you communicate this through the computer? Get off that computer and get a life! No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader This Anonymous stuff is sad. Whim should have a forum or something. The only people we really know that have posted here are Blake, Brian and Omar. The rest? Well, who knows. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader "Shut up Anonymous Whim Reader and give it a rest you douche!" okay Brian but you still did not answer the questions and so you obviously have no answers. So give it a rest, it was your worst article ever you don't have to try to make it look like its the best thing that ever was made. No Subject Posted by Anonymous Whim Reader lol... reading Omar's first post above shows that he pretty much has done everything that Brian suggested. so even from that perspective, pointless article. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader Brian's last 3 articles have been to inclusive, that is the problem. He is talking only for Muslims. Which people who are not Muslim care about Islamic purification of the heart or Islamic diversity. The food articles were good, and Omar's articles are very relevant to things we need to learn about. Brian's articles are good too, just the last three (especially this one) have not really been good at all... wayyyy too inclusive Mr. Seay. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader I think its pretty much agreed upon now that this is Brian's worst article and a waste of time to read. You started out good but you should have not started writing articles which were written the week before and then changing them so they could have your name on them. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader I think it seems like Brian has an ego problem and wants to feel like he is "a part" of diversity on campus so he wrote this article. He seems very insecure on many things through his writing. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader People stopped reading Brian's articles when he started talking too much about Islam while not really understanding it himself. Omar's articles are not always about Islam but when he talks about it he knows what he's talking about. I am getting bored of both though, but I am liking how Omar is starting to write different types of articles, also bear in mind that Omar does not write every week. Brian's articles would be better on non-Islamic subjects as Omar seems to be much more experienced in the feild and Brian's articles are just novice attempts. How about Brian go back to what he wrote about best, the War in Iraq, Rap Music, etc. I think even Ray would agree on this one - would you not? No Subject Posted by Brian S. How can you speak for me and say that I don't understand what I'm writing. If I didn't understand I wouldn't waste my time writing the articles. I write about things that I know and since you say that I do not understand it do you understand it yourself? Also by the many "Anonymous Whim Reader" posts that we have, why can't you address who you really are. I don't have to hide behind as 'Anonymous' and just because I don't that makes me have an ego? And just because I write articles, the people on this board seem to get really steamed for some reason that is just ridiculous. So just because I address something I'm egotistical? And the person (I don't know who, don't care really) who wrote "He seems very insecure on many things through his writing", well the only thing I can say is you must be too. Stop hiding behind 'Anonymous' because that shows insecurity right there. As I've always said, if you want to read the article, read it and if you don't like it just leave it alone and go get a life and stop critizing. Thank you. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader "I don't have to hide behind as 'Anonymous' and just because I don't that makes me have an ego?" No. Mr. Seay still doesn't seem to understand the point. Please go back, read the posts, and RESPOND to the POINTS instead of criticizing us for not showing our names. And quit being so egotistical. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader I think the whole point of it is that Omar wrote an article about the SAME SUBJECT last week and it was a lot more inclusive and a lot more detailed. Then you come in and write the same thing the week before and get pissed off because your not involved in the process? Cool down man, maybe they will let you be involved, and if not maybe you don't deserve to be involved? No Subject Posted by Whim Reader I hated Omar's article. but the SAWR above is right. Brian's article is just the same thing copied off and recycled. Omar at least tried to include the entire campus. Brian is just trying to make a name for himself with diversity, cut the ego. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader It wasn't just Omar's article. Leave that out for a moment, who cares about that. People write about the same stuff all the time. The fact is that Brian's article just really has no substance. It's literally written with no clue what so ever about what goes on in this school. Brian, do you know how the budget is put together? If you don't then why did you write this article without being informed about HOW to do your "PLAN" - and if you do then how the hell are you going to convince the entire SGA to give away all their money for Muslims? Thanks. Who Cares? Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader Brian, from your not being able to answer the questions adressed to you above, and for your ignoring them we have concluded many things: (1) You have no idea how to achieve diversity at this school, (2) You have no plan to do this, (3) You have no people skills or experience with minorities, (4) You do not know the heads of all the diversity clubs on campus, (5) You have no idea how SGA works or what SGA does, (6) You think you have the solution to all problems, (7) You have no idea about the budget, (8) So in conclusion you just wrote this to try to get your name out there that you support diversity maybe because you are jealous or power hungry or arrogant or something and you believe that you deserve a high up position somewhere on campus when you really have no experience, no vision, and no skills. Then who really cares about your article, thats a question I will ask you? Quit hiding behind the facts by saying we're posting anonymously. IF you really were true to your whole thing then you could do it. Brian is just trying to get his name up there - so much for "diversity awareness." E = MC2 Posted by Theorist My theory is that the SAWR responses from last week on Omar's article were really Brian S. and this is pretty obvious now if you see how he wrote this article trying to get his name out there and repeating everything Omar said. Just a theory. Ray = Reality, "SAWR-last week" = Brian. Either that or everyone in this campus hates Omar and Brian... hmm... No Subject Posted by Brian S. If you think I'm power hungry so be it. That's what you think but doesn't mean your right. I don't know why when it comes to "diversity" people want to stray away from the subject. In a previous post up here someone said that I seem to know it all but I claimed that I didn't know everything and you don't either. No one doesn't know everything and I'm the first to admit it. And I defintely don't have the solution to all the problems but if there is a problem why not address it? This will be my final post up here so you can go on and rant if you like but I know where my intentions lie. I'm not trying to make it on TV with this issue or anything like that. So don't speak for me on my intentions. Thank you and have a great summer. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader "I don't know why when it comes to "diversity" people want to stray away from the subject." Brian cut the bullshit, it's not because it's about diversity. It's about your whole approach. And if you don't want to post anymore because you have no answers to our questions -- so be it because let me say your silence speaks louder than your words as Ray said. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader "but if there is a problem why not address it?" Maybe because Omar adressed it LAST WEEK anyways... if he took care of it why do you have to come and "make a name" by trying to be bold and re-write it. No Subject Posted by Ray Brian's articles would be better on non-Islamic subjects as Omar seems to be much more experienced in the feild and Brian's articles are just novice attempts. How about Brian go back to what he wrote about best, the War in Iraq, Rap Music, etc. I think even Ray would agree on this one - would you not? I whole heartedly agree. Me, I do have an inflated ego, so these little shout outs I get occasionally are pretty sweet. Sorry I've been gone for a while. Just trying to enjoy the last weekend with everybody here. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader "If you think I'm power hungry so be it. That's what you think but doesn't mean your right." - Doesn't mean I am wrong either. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader Brian does good Islam articles. Purification of the heart was good although maybe he should have put that under the "different cultures" series as well as "setting the record straight" but this article was unneccessary. That does not mean his other Islam articles weren't good. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader Brian really hit the crux of the matter "And I defintely don't have the solution to all the problems but if there is a problem why not address it? This will be my final post up here so you can go on and rant if you like but I know where my intentions lie. I'm not trying to make it on TV with this issue or anything like that." Why not address it? No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader It is not about addressing it MR. SEAY... it is about how Omar wrote the same thing last week but better and more inclusive. No Subject Posted by Omar They are totally different articles people. His is about one thing mine is about another. The only thing they have in common is "diversity." Brian is his own person, I do not know what articles he is going to write. He rarely tells me what articles he is writing nor do I write his articles for him. He is his own person and I am my own person. We both write what comes to mind for the week. I do not believe he "copied" off me and I did not even know this article was coming out. But now I seriously am leaving for the rest of the year because it is finals time, so have fun. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader Omar opines: "But now I seriously am leaving for the rest of the year because it is finals time, so have fun." What, you're still not going to explain what exactly you mean regarding the broad terms in your article? For shame! Why am I not surprised? Heh. Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader "But now I seriously am leaving for the rest of the year because it is finals time, so have fun." What, Omar doesn't have the Internet at home?!? No Subject Posted by Robert Clark Actually I know Omar and his computer has been broken for 3 months and he's going on vacation on Sunday so he cannot respond to ur comments. Have a great summer. Peace! No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader "Actually I know Omar and his computer has been broken for 3 months and he's going on vacation on Sunday so he cannot respond to ur comments." Ah. He's posted an awful lot for not having had a computer for the past three months.
No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader Ever heard of Walker Computer Lab ;) No Subject Posted by Ray Ever heard of a library? Who gives a fuck. Maybe we'll have a little bit of peace from having him try to convince us the religion of terrorists isnt actually violent. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader Maybe we will quit listening to you telling us that a religion of peaceful people is actually terrorist. Ray, as much as you try you can't stop the truth. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader Ray, aren't you the one who said that you bought a gun to protect yourself from Muslims and that if they came to your house you would defend yourself to the death fighting, etc.? And then you come around and say they are violent. No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader Self defense is not generally considered violence. Would he need to protect himself from a peaceful person? Doubtfully No Subject Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader "Maybe we will quit listening to you telling us that a religion of peaceful people is actually terrorist." Not all muslims are terrorists. But a surprisingly large number of terrorists are muslims. And some of the things acceptable in Islam are in fact criminal acts in the US. For example: the "beating a woman with two fingers as long as you don't hit them in the face" bit, along with the "it's OK to rape your wife, because, hey, she's your wife and must submit to you or be beaten until she does" bit that was discussed earlier. What Islam needs is a reformation. Unfortunately, if you suggest such a thing in a large part of the muslim world, they'll riot and kill you. "Islam, the Religion of Peace"? Yeah, right. Sit down, shut up, drink your coffee, and eat your "roses of the Prophet Muhammed". I have posted a style error! Posted by Some Anonymous Whim Reader This is an automated message. In the example you gave, Ray wouldn't be acting illegally, because he didn't use violence first. Since when have muslims been into the whole "turn the other cheek" bit? When a society riots and burns foreign embassies because of the publication of a CARTOON, that society has some serious issues. Islam is it's own worst enemy. |
