History

Radford University Emergency Medical Services, a student run volunteer agency, was started in 1988 by a group of enthusiastic individuals who wanted to make a difference on the campus of RU. The first members began by listening in on police scanners and responding to near by calls of foot with whatever resources they had at the time. Over the years, RU EMS has grown from those humble roots to becoming a highly respected agency that now responds out of RU EMS quarters with our Rescue 9 response vehicle and some of the most state of the art equipment in the field.

Radford University EMS is a Virginia state certified Basic Life Support, Non- transport agency that provides care to the student, faculty, staff, and guests of Radford University in addition to providing mutual aid to the surrounding Radford City area. Outside of the normal day-to-day response area, RU EMS also provides medical stand-bys for RU athletics, concerts, and ceremonies on and off campus grounds.
