A few tips
about Sligo...
Sligo has a wide variety of shops that will be very helpful.
There is an internet cafe just down the street from the grocery
store. This was the only internet cafe we found in Sligo and
it seemed fairly busy. They offer a student discount so
show them your ISIC card or RU ID to get the special rate.
It should be around €
4 for an hour, on our trip as a whole, we saw prices ranging from
€2 to €6 per hour. A
few people also got some film developed here, and there are tons
of craft shops and bookstores. There aren't as many touristy
type shops here in Sligo. I'd say the most money was spent
on Yeats type books and food from the grocery store.
The grocery store is great. Since we
stayed outside of town, we stopped here and picked up food we would
need for the week. One thing to note is that you have to pay
if you want a bag to carry your groceries in. It's only like
15 cents, but after your first visit save the bags and re-use
them. There are flavors of juice, yogurt, and even chips
that you've never seen before- try some they are really good!
One thing to be careful of is the juice...it's highly concentrated,
made for you to add water to it to your liking. I found it
all too sweet (artificial sweeteners) no matter how much water I
added. So, check the labels and go for the kind that you
don't have to add water to. The juice that comes in cartons
instead of bottles are good. It's most commonly Apple, Orange
or Cranberry.
Get money from the bank in
town before you leave for Dublin. I always hit the ATM on
the last day so I would be ready to go in our new destination.
That way you can go straight to dinner etc. without trying to find
an ATM or bank first. Oh- your ATM card will not work in
some ATMs here- go to the Ulster Bank (by the Yeats statue).
They will definitely accept your card. |
