Beginning Drawing

ART 360 Video Art
Two hours lecture 2 hours studio (2-D or 3-D, Consult professor for distinction) Prerequisite: Basic Videography for the Arts


Two hours demonstration lecture or critique, three hours studio. (2D) Introduction to visual concepts. Development of skills to produce expressive drawings. May be taken twice for a total of six hours credit.


B. Goals and Objectives


A variety of drawing techniques and design elements will be explored. Technical exploration include pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, conte crayon, and wash. Design elements will include line, texture, shading, modeling and composition. In-class subjects will include the nude model, still life, architecture and landscapes.


Emphasis will be placed on practicing artistic powers of observation and developing a visual repertoire of images to use and incorporate into finished drawings. Students will be required to complete a sketchbook of work outside of class. Using drawings as a notation system for completed work in other media and final drawings will also be practiced. Lectures and discussion of drawings about other artists will also be included.
