ART 310: Basic Videography for the Artist

This course provides students with a fundamental overview of videography as an art form and videography as a creative resource in the arts. Lecture and demonstration will emphasize the creative and logistical elements of producing video and integrating video with digital/computer technology, or for multimedia presentation


B. Brief Description of Content of Course


Students will first gain an historical perspective of film and video as an art form. Through viewing and discussion of films/videos students will learn to analyze the symbolism and imagery construct of film/video.


The production skills to be learned consist of shooting with the video camera, editing shots together, and mixing imagery with special effects. Also included will be technical language skills, and methods of organization such as storyboarding.


Students will also explore and experiment with the differences between the digital and analog formats. Computer manipulation of video images is the future of the medium. Students in this class will develop an awareness of this future.


C. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course


Students will use videography as an artistic tool through demonstration and hands on experience.
