John D., Virginia, & Al

In Memory of
Virginia Hollins

October 14, 1911~June 7, 2002

Most people knew Virginia Hollins as Tootsie ,but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew her as Nanny. Virginia was the oldest of nine children, born and raised in Goochland, Virginia. While still a young girl, her mother developed multiple-schlerosis and Virginia was left to take care of her siblings and her father. All of the children had a nickname, except the youngest, Hazel. Virginia said they weren't going to give her one. Hazel would keep her given name. Virginia was very close to her sisters, Ladybug(Helen) and Hazel. Whenever the sisters got together it was if a party had just broken out.

As early as 12, she began to drive her father around on errands. At age 13, she recieved her driving license at a funeral, written out on the fender of a car by the Constable. The cost was $1.

Virginia married at the young age of 16 she became a loving companion to Dudley Hollins. And soon after, a loving mother to Al & Jonh D. And later, Nanny to their children and their children's children.

Coca~Cola was Dud's favorite and always readily available for the children, along with cookies and icecream.

Virginia loved to talk on the phone while cooking, cleaning, and carrying on a conversation in the same room. The telephone repair man said that she was the only person that he had ever known to wear out a telephone.

Virginia was always ready to help someone in need. Below is an opportunity to remember what she believed in ~ family.
