Oh, I can see the mailman out my window. He's opening my box. He just put
some stuff in. I got mail! I can't wait to see what I got.it's.it's an
Ames ad and a "special offer" from Columbia House, which looks strikingly
similar to the "special offer" they sent me yesterday. Junk mail sucks!!!
What you've just read is a dramatization of an event that occurs each day
to thousands of people around the globe as they open their mailboxes to
discover a barrage of useless postcards, envelopes and sales papers. How
do we get on these mailing lists, and more importantly, how do we get off those same lists?
Most of this junk mail isn't even addressed to me, just
to that guy named Current Resident.
Some might say that there is no harm in junk mail, but I beg to differ.
All that wasted paper has to come from somewhere, and the fact that those
valuable resources are being wasted in my name is outrageous.
Junk mail is not an effective means of advertising. Think about
it: how many cards and leaflets do you toss each week without even checking
to see where they are from?
The senders of junk mail need to behave more responsibly. They need to
periodically check to see if box holders wish to continue receiving their
ads and offers. Respect for customers and for the environment demands that
such measures be taken. Further, they just might find a better use for all
the money they spend on advertising that is discarded as quickly as it is
received.

I have a Hotmail account that I use as my primary email. I like it and I never get spammed. If you're getting spam from the same people all the time then you can filter out those email addresses just like you can have a prank caller's number blocked.

I send all potential spammers to my hotmail account. Hotmail sucks. I agree. Shaun, the only way to prevent junk mail is to not give your address to anybody...but...since you can't live with out signing forms and applying for this, signing up for that...it'll never happen. Advertisers unfortunately still believe that direct mail is a very good form of direct advertising. (and the proof is in the pudding) More than $75 million annually is spent in this country on direct mail from advertsers...all pulling for your wallet. Advertisers find direct mail to be about 85% effective...so somewhere in this country, there are morons who agree with the fliers they read that the FLOWBIE isn't sold in stores, and must be bought over mail. :)

I got a hotmail account when they first were available about oh...five-four years ago? I still have the account, but it's inundated with LOADS (And boy do I mean loads) of junk mail from every type of spamming source possible: porno, get-rich-quick, product offers, website offers, etc. It's ridiculous :)
