Omikron: The Nomad Soul

Graphic By: Rachel Thomason What would be the perfect video game experience? Quake fans think one way; Final Fantasy gamers think another. Further, you've got the Street Fighter junkies out there as well. What if there was a game that had all these elements in it, along with Tomb Raider action and erotica mixed with a great storyline and the ultimate in REAL-world-like ability and movement? What if such a game even had an original soundtrack by David Bowie!? Well, the game you'd be playing would be Omikron: The Nomad Soul.

Omikron has one of the most complicated and integrated 3-D engines out there today. You walk like Tomb Raider, fight like Virtual Fighter and shoot 'em up like Quake all in the same intricate game, one that provides a movie-like experience.

In this game, you can go anywhere, assuming you can get in, of course. You can talk to anyone and interact with anything. You can even call a taxi (called "sliders" in this game), but be careful not to get hit by one. You may also go visit a bar, restaurant, drugstore, bookshop, strip joint and more. This game is one of the best I've ever played and continue to play.

The story line is fanciful and also down to earth. At first your soul gets transported into another body in order to help this guy. You get sent to his world where you have to find out exactly why you're there because when you land you really have no idea. Omikron isn't without its beginner clues to help you get off on the right track, though; the game will pull you through thousands of different scenarios as you traverse it.

One of the most interesting things about Omikron is that you only get one life. If you die, your soul will be transported to someone else, and you must continue the game with that person. The game engine is smart enough to allow the game to flow and change in accordance to how you solve problems and who you are at that time. You have worlds to explore and items to pick up, people to fight and girlfriends to keep happy.

All in all, this is a wonderful game.

I suggest that you have a good processor and video card to play this game; though, these items are not entirely necessary. This usually retails in store for about $40.00, but in Christiansburg, it's running on sale for $20. So, if you get the chance, pick it up. I know you won't be sorry.
