Windows Millennium and You

What is Windows Millennium (or Windows ME) and how does it affect me? Well Windows Millennium is Microsoft’s new operating system that is currently in beta testing right now. Stated for release sometime at the end of this year it will be Microsoft’s last operating system released using the Windows 9x code. Any Windows after Windows Millennium will be based on NT, Microsoft’s business operating system. Will this operating system make me want to upgrade from Windows 98?

The main difference between 98 and Millennium is that Millennium will get rid of MS Dos compatibility. No more Wolfenstein 3D, or any other Dos game. Instead you should have more reliability from Windows. That remains to be seen though for beta testers say the beta is really buggy as of now. Windows Me also will have some features that are currently a part of Windows 2000 although as to what those features are is sketchy. Other features are faster booting, and power management features are to be expected.

Some of the features that might make this operating system worth buying come with the digital media area. Microsoft plans to make this operating system a digital media work horse for the consumer. Consumers can expect more features that improve the movie making ability of their computer. That will be welcome news to all the young directors now directing the net cam films scattered across the web these days.

Now, whether this new operating system is right for you remains to be seen. We will hear more from beta testers as we near the release date of the product. I would strongly consider holding off on upgrading until Microsoft releases more details on the even newer operating system code named "Whistler" which has just entered the first stages of beta testing. But until then, by all means, stick with your regular version of Windows. it is still the best way to run your computer.
