Can you imagine the sight of hundreds of Radford University students
running around
campus, throwing snowballs and building snowmen in the middle of the night?
That
was the scene last Wednesday evening at Radford University. Meanwhile, the
snow continued to fall heavily, and
nearly four inches accumulated by the end of the night.
A few friends and I decided to trek through the newly fallen snow, so we
could visit
a friend across campus. As we were leaving Muse, we were surprised to see
so many
people outside in the cold! Instead of staying indoors and avoiding the nasty
weather, these students came together and had the time of their lives.
People were separated into two lines and looked as if they were part of a war
reenactment. We could hear the leader of one side yell, "One, two, three,
CHARGE!"
In less than a split second, everyone ran to the other side, pounding their
snowballs at the other team. We stepped quickly and carefully past Muse
Quad, dodging
snowballs left and right. Just walking along the sidewalk put us directly
in the line of
fire.
We assumed anyone who was involved in this snowball war was in front of
Muse. Boy, were we wrong! We found
people covering every inch of snow around the Governor's Quad and Moffett
Quad as well.
The bitter weather definitely wasn't bringing anyone down!
When we finally approached Clement Street, we noticed there was a line of
guys to our
left and a line of girls to our right. When we realized they were having a
massive
snowball fight, we hauled ass and tried to get out of their way as fast as
we could.
Unfortunately, I wasn't as lucky as my friends. I was almost to safety when I
was hit smack on the side of my head. I felt wounded, as if I were really
in battle. I
felt really stupid at first, but when I actually picked up a snowball and
threw it
back. It was then when I realized just how much fun it was.
Sometimes, it's hard to believe how something so trivial as the weather can
bring so
many different people together at one time. It was good to see everyone
having such
a fun time in the snow!
