Research/ Scientific Inquiry III is a continuation of Research/ Scientific Inquiry II. Students will justify, conduct, analyze and evaluate a research project in physical therapy.


Detailed Description of Course

Research/ Scientific Inquiry III is a continuation of Research/ Scientific Inquiry II. Students will justify, conduct, analyze and evaluate a research project in physical therapy. Data collection and analysis will provide students the foundation research results to be used in the completion of their capstone research requirement necessary for graduation. Students will work in small groups in cooperation with and under the supervision of a research committee.
    


Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Course content may be delivered by lecture, in class discussions, small-group cooperative learning, written class assignments, and analysis and presentation of preliminary data for the capstone project.


Goals and Objectives of this Course

Will require students to:

1) Examine and integrate research into the practice of physical therapy; 2) Appropriately code data used for analysis; 3) Use an appropriate statistical test to carry out data analysis; 4) Interpret the statistical results from the data; 5) Identify clinically significant outcomes from the results of a study; 6) Identify common possible limitations and problems that may be encountered when conducting research; 7) Develop strategies for dealing with and interpreting  research limitations.


Assessment Measures

May include but are not limited to:

Examinations, written article critiques, research article presentations, and refinement of a written research proposal
