NURS 825: Doctor of Nursing Practice Executive Leadership Final Project I
Prerequisites: NURS 700, NURS 702, NURS 704, NURS 800, NURS 802, NURS 804, NURS 810 and NURS 812

This is the initial capstone work required for the DNP in Executive Leadership. This course expands upon previous course work and administrative leadership experiences that focused on nursing education, policy, practice, research or business within an area of student interest.
Note(s): This course may be taken after receiving a grade of “B” or higher in all prerequisite courses.
Detailed Description of Course
The Capstone is derived from the leadership administrative immersion experiences in which the DNP student applies principles of management, evaluation, and decision-making in varied situations. The student may design an advanced leadership project within the guidelines proposed in the Essentials of Advanced Practice Nursing (American Association of Colleges of Nursing 2008) and the position statement from the Council of Graduate Education for Administration in Nursing 2011. Projects may include in-depth work with experts from nursing and other disciplines. Advanced nursing roles and experiences assist students in development and assimilation of complex knowledge, decision-making and administrative detail. The residency (NURS 827) establishes aframework for the Capstone project in which the student identifies, develops, and implements a project involving a policy, business practice, or research interest that culminates in a publishable paper, program and/or presentation.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
May include but is not limited to faculty- and/or student- directed discussions and presentation, reading assignments, written work, and conferences with faculty and advisors. The online nature of this course may include audio or video presentations/lectures, discussion boards, chat rooms, videoconferencing, and other instructional technology strategies.
Goals and Objectives of this Course
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
1. Critically appraise published evidence used in decision making.
2. Develop an evidence-based project proposal appropriate to a selected population.
3. Demonstrate integrity in the protection of human subjects for those who participate in research.
Critically evaluate project implementation and designated outcomes.
May include but are not limited to an oral presentation and/or a publishable paper.
