Two-three hours lecture (2-3).

Prerequisites: MUSC321 and 322.

Specialized topic course. Study of advanced music history or literature. May be taken again for credit with different topics.

 

Detailed Description of Content of Course

The purpose of this course is to give students the opportunity to pursue in‑depth work on any number of possible topics. Sample of topic areas may include:

 

A. Travel and Study
B. Art Song
C. Choral Music
D. Vocal Literature
E. Opera
F. Chamber Music
G. Symphonic Literature
H. Band Literature
I. Sacred Music
J. American Music

 

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

The course is usually a combination of lecture with a strong emphasis on the presentation of student research results in the form of oral as well as written projects.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

1. Students should gain an in‑depth experience of the study of music history and literature.
2. Students are expected to sharpen research skills in the field of music history and literature.

Students registered for graduate credit are expected to complete at least one additional research paper.

 

Assessment Measures

Depending on the nature of the course assessment is by tests (listening and written) and research projects.
