Two faculty from Radford University’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (COSD) presented at the Southeast University Clinical Education Conference (SEUCE) in Athens, Georgia on Sept. 28-29.

Instructors Rebecca Epperly and Terri Shelor co-presented “Think outside the plan: remediation successes and failures” before the gathering of more than 50 colleagues who are graduate level clinical directors and supervisors for speech-hearing-language pathologist (SLP) candidates from Virginia to Texas.

“The clinical environment is challenging,” said Shelor. “Remediation plans are unique and evolve from good feedback and interaction.”

The hour-long presentation, one of 12 featured at the SEUCE annual conference, was derived from experience gained by Epperly and Shelor and presented in a series of case studies.

“Our objective is to develop competent professionals,” said Epperly. “It can be challenging to provide constructive, honest feedback that helps students who are bright high-achievers and who have done well in the competitive classroom environment.”
