You can learn a lot from a tree

Geospatial Science Assistant Professor Stockton Maxwell will speak about tree rings and climate change in an interview on the With Good Reason public radio program.

What can tree rings teach us about climate change?

Stockton Maxwell has some answers.

The associate professor in Geospatial Science at Radford University will speak about the topic, his research and more on the With Good Reason public radio program in an interview that will air July 1-7 on more than 60 radio stations across the United States.

The program is a rebroadcast of an interview Maxwell conducted with the radio program in 2015.

Listeners in the New River Valley can hear the show at 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 4 on Public Radio WVRU 89.9. Programs also are available as podcasts at withgoodreasonradio.org.

In the interview, Maxwell speaks about the application of dendrochronology, or tree ring analysis, to understand past climates. He also discusses his work using tree rings to understand the amount of carbon stored by forests and how trees can help slow climate change.

With Good Reason is produced by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities for the Virginia Higher Education Broadcasting Consortium and is broadcast on public radio stations in Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

With Good Reason has won five Gabriel Awards for Best Documentary or Public Affairs Programs, and is the recipient of top honors from the Public Radio News Directors, Radio and Television Digital News Association and the Virginia Association of Broadcasters.
