Radford University alumna Neesey Payne '10 will be the keynote speaker at New River Community College's Black History Month Program on Feb. 19 at 3 p.m.

Payne is the co-anchor of the WDBJ7 "Mornin'" show, which airs weekdays from 5 to 7 a.m.

A native of Pulaski, Payne received a Bachelor of Science degree in media studies from Radford University in 2010. She worked in radio and print media before joining the Roanoke-based WDBJ7 news station in 2013. Starting as a part-time camera operator, she had roles in pre- and post-production, as well as web and social media development. She also appeared in a televised segment called “What’s Trending?” which highlighted top stories shared on social media. A few months later, she began reporting for the WDBJ7 "Mornin’" show, a news segment she now co-anchors.

At the Feb. 19 gathering - sponsored by NRCC's Black History Committee - Payne will discuss topics related to this year's National Black Awareness Month theme, "Crisis in Black Education."

Jason Diggs, Alan Johnson and Moriah Hinton will provide musical entertainment.

The event will be held in Edwards Hall, room 117. It is free and open to the public.
