COBE honors students with BGS induction

Twenty-three COBE students were inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) honor society in an April 25 ceremony at Kyle Hall.

Radford University’s College of Business and Economics (COBE) inducted 23 new student members into Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) honor society in an April 25 ceremony at Kyle Hall.

The International Honor Society Beta Gamma Sigma recognizes academic excellence at the world's top business schools – those accredited by AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Since its founding in 1913, BGS has established more than 525 collegiate chapters in 22 countries.

Membership in BGS is limited to COBE juniors and seniors who rank in the top 10 percent of their class and MBA students in the top 20 percent.

“There is no greater honor we can bestow as a college of business than to invite our students to join Beta Gamma Sigma, the national honor society recognizing academic excellence in business programs,” COBE Dean George Low said.

“This honors our most outstanding students,” said Marketing Professor and Radford University BGS chapter advisor Angela Stanton. “You truly are the best of the best.”

Management Associate Professor Tal Zarankin was the faculty inductee, joining a long list of COBE faculty who have received the honor. “Dr. Zarankin was chosen for this honor by the students of BGS because he exemplifies the Beat Gamma Sigma principles,” said BGS president Karleigh Marshall.

BGS inducted officers for the 2017-18 academic year. Those included Caitlyn Crump Alicia Harris, Claudia Quevedo Padilla, Natalie Sayer and Jordan Toohey.

Low acknowledged and commended the 2016-17 academic year BGS officers: Marshall; Crump, who served as president; Secretary Sable Ponn; and Treasurer Aaliyah Patterson.

“These students accepted the leadership challenge of preparing the way for the next class of Beat Gamma Sigma inductees,” Low said.
