Associate Professor Haoqin Gong of Beihang University.

The work of Haoqin Gong was featured in collaboration with Radford University’s graphic design students and professors at Reagan National Airport in a showcase of East and West artistic culture this past summer.

The exhibit, which featured paintings of the Flying Tigers and Art of Design, ran in Gallery Walk in Terminal A inside of Reagan National Airport until the end of September. After its completion in the nation’s capital, the exhibit moved to Radford University’s Art Museum Downtown.

The Flying Tigers represent a victorious end to World War II. The pieces show the historical significance of the 1941-42 American Volunteer Group of the Chinese Air Force and the contributions they made to winning the war. The artwork honors the unique relationship between the United States and China during WWII.

Radford University graphic design students and faculty members had a similar theme to their artwork on display.

The works consisted of digital 2D and 3D illustrations, combining international, wartime and contemporary themes in American culture. In addition to the digital work, packaging designs and other projects were included on display.

Gong is an associate professor at Beihang University in Beijing. He is currently a guest artist of the Department of Art at Radford University for the 2016-17 academic year, working with master watercolorist Z.L. Feng.

The exhibit on display in Radford University’s Art Museum Downtown runs until Nov. 16.
