NursingSchoolsAlmanac.com has recognized Radford University's School of Nursing (SON) as a top national and regional nursing school.

The SON was ranked by the site to be among the top 4 percent of all public schools considered. The SON ranked among the Top 75 public nursing schools in the United State at No. 75. The University of California at San Francisco topped the national rankings.

In the Southeast region that includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia, the SON was rated No. 31 among the publication’s top 50. Duke University topped the Southeast regional rankings.

“Our faculty and staff have helped Radford build a heritage of service and academics of which we are very proud,” said SON Director Tony Ramsey. “This is one more validation of their dedication to providing the best in patient care and preparation for today’s healthcare industry.”

According to Editor-in-Chief Christopher McMillen, NursingSchoolsAlmanac.com’s inaugural ranking of American nursing schools provides a comprehensive and analytical web-based resource for aspiring nurses to use as they select their future nursing school.

The site gathered data from more than 3,200 institutions nationwide and Radford was among the 10 percent to make its final list. The RU SON was cited for exceptional performance on the national nursing licensure exam. The main Radford campus has posted a 95 percent NCLEX pass rate since 2013, while Roanoke students have passed the exam at a 96 percent clip. Also highlighted were the SON’s full online RN-to-BSN program and its Doctor of Nursing Practice concentrations in family nurse practice, leadership and psychiatric mental health.
