Service and Sustainability Week is Sept. 5-10

Radford University’s BE S.E.E.N. (Be Successful Through Engagement and Education Now) and the Sustainability Office are hosting Service and Sustainability Week Sept. 5-10. Planned activities include student activities, information sessions and films.

Events and activities include:

Monday, Sept. 5
Eat a Local Meal
11 a.m.–2:30 p.m., Dalton Dining
Enjoy local menu items and learn why “eating local” benefits you and your community.

Food waste collection during Dalton lunch and dinner
11 a.m.–2:30 p.m. and 4:30 – 7:15 p.m., Dalton Dining
Results of how much food was not eaten will be posted on the Dining Services website.

Tuesday, Sept. 6
11 a.m.–12:30 p.m., Bonnie Dining Stage Area
Short films on the journey of food from farm to table

Let’s go for a bike ride
5-6:30 p.m., Meet at Bonnie Plaza

Documentary: “Time to Choose:, Film and panel discussion
7-8:30 p.m., Bonnie Auditorium

Wednesday, Sept. 7
Secure document shredding
11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Bonnie Plaza
Bring your unwanted documents to be loaded into locked containers for transport to an off-campus shredding facility.

Pick up information about Radford University’s sustainability efforts.

Enterprise Car Share program information table

Thursday, Sept. 8
American Red Cross blood drive
11 a.m.-3 p.m., Bonnie Plaza
Repercussion drumming performance and sculpture building contest with everyday recyclable materials
7-8 p.m., Bonnie Plaza

Friday, Sept. 9
Volunteer and Service Fair
11 a.m.-2 p.m., Bonnie Plaza

Saturday, Sept 10
Downtown Radford Farmers Market
8 a.m.-1 p.m.
Support local farmers. Item selection varies per week, but often includes fresh produce, farm-fresh eggs, locally raised beef, jams, jellies and preserves, hand-made goods, bedding plants, honey, coffee and more.

Radford Campus Plant-A-Thon
9 a.m.-Noon, Meet at Bonnie Plaza at 9 a.m.
Volunteers are needed to help plant trees, shrubs and flowers around campus. Gloves and tools will be provided. Snacks and drinks will be available. Sign up through RUInvolved.
