WCHHS scholarship on display at 3rd annual interprofessional symposium

The Waldron College of Health and Human Services (WCHHS) community will gather for its third annual Interprofessional Symposium and Expo (IPS&E) on April 12 in Heth Hall.

The daylong celebration of original research by the WCHHS faculty and students will feature a Spotlight Presentation, titled "Practicing Collaboration: Five years of interprofessional education at Radford University," by faculty members Kate Brennan, Rebecca Epperly, Renee Huth, Sheila Krajnik and Kerry Vandergrift.

"We are excited to showcase the exceptional research and scholarly work being done in the college," said WCHHS Dean Kenneth Cox. "The dynamic and productive relationships among faculty and students from all of the WCHHS programs will be on display."

The IPS&E will include 10 podium presentations and almost 60 poster presentations, from graduate and undergraduate students and faculty in the Schools of Nursing and Social Work, the Communication Sciences and Disorders and Occupational Therapy departments and the Doctor of Physical Therapy, Doctor of Nursing Practice and RN to BSN programs. Poster and podium presentation abstracts will be available on the symposium website.

“We value this annual showcase of programs that has been implemented in our college and across campus,” said WCHHS Associate Dean Corey Cassidy. “This is an opportunity to recognize and thank the community and clinical sites that work with our students every semester, as well as to the WCHHS Interprofessional Planning and Peer Review Committees, who represent the faculty, staff and students and serve as the organizers of this important gathering of our college.”

Featured at the Expo will be more than 30 participating organizations representing health care and community service organization in the public and private sectors, such as Carilion Clinic, Family Preservation Services, Fox Rehabilitation, Friendship Retirement Community, Intercept Youth Services, Kissito Healthcare, Medical Facilities of America, New River Valley Community Services, Roanoke City Schools, UnitedHealth Group and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. The Expo is co-sponsored by the Radford University Career Center and Waldron College of Health and Human Services.
