Veteran resource agencies to visit Radford University

A special gathering of veteran’s resource groups will take place in the Hurlburt Student Center plaza on Monday, April 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., allowing veterans in the Radford University community easy access to benefits and assistance.

All are welcome and non-veterans are encouraged to let family and friends who have served know about the event.

Disabled American Veterans (DAV) will bring a Mobile Service Office (MSO) to the campus. These vehicles travel to small towns and rural communities to counsel and educate veterans and their families on the benefits and services available to them. Representatives will be on-hand to provide assistance with benefit claims.

In addition to DAV, representatives from the U.S. Veteran’s Outreach Center of Roanoke will be available to discuss the wide variety of counseling available through their office including trauma counseling, bereavement counseling, family counseling and employment assessment and referral.

The Virginia Department of Veterans Services (VDVS) will also be in attendance. VDVS advocates on behalf of veterans and connects them and their families to benefits and services they have earned. Services available include claim filing assistance, information on DVS nursing, assisted living and domiciliary care for veterans, state veterans cemeteries and direct links to other services as needed.

All services are provided free of charge and are open to all veterans and their families. Attendees should bring along any pertinent information such as DD Form 214 (discharge papers), social security number and any open claim numbers.
