Lambda Alpha Epsilon's Chi Nu chapter of Radford University raised funds for the Radford City Police Department's K-9 unit.

Through a "Go Fund Me" page, members fundraised $500 that will go toward supplies, training costs, equipment and medical necessities to assist the K-9 unit.

The Radford City Police Department has four K-9 teams in service. The unit is located in the city of Radford, but officers assist other agencies throughout the New River Valley when needed. The department is currently in the process of adding another dog to the unit.

Members of Lambda Alpha Epsilon Chi Nu, Radford University's chapter of the National Criminal Justice Fraternity, heard of the unit's needs through an RU alumnus and former Chi Nu brother.

Michelle Jordan, the fraternity's fundraising chair, helped set up the "Go Fund Me" page earlier this year.

"The Radford City K-9 unit is an extremely important asset to our community," Jordan said. "They are consistently and continuously providing service with courage, pride and order in their assigned duties. They keep our community safe from various forms of criminal activity as well as provide educational opportunities to our youth through community service and public awareness activities."

Members presented the K-9 unit officers with a check on April 15.

"We are very proud of their continuous support and fundraising efforts toward our K-9 unit," said Radford City Police Corp. Emily Hite.
