Campus welcomes students back with BE S.E.E.N.

Radford University's BE S.E.E.N. (Be Seen Through Student Engagement and Education Now) 2015 series is off to a successful start.

The program began the first day of classes, Aug. 31, and will continue through mid-October with six-themed weeks of activities that appeal to a variety of interests.

During week one, themed "Welcome, Highlanders," students enjoyed a pizza party, an interactive art project and live music from a Dave Matthews Tribute Band. Students also celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the Hurlburt Student Center with the Bonnie Birthday Bash. Bonnie Hurlburt, a former Radford University dean of students for which the center is named, attended the party and took selfies with students. The week culminated with the Club Fair on Heth Lawn. A record 215 student organizations participated along with 29 Radford University offices/departments, 30 Chamber of Commerce businesses and two Community Service partners – a new initiative this year. Also new to the fair was a towering Ferris wheel that offered a bird's-eye view of campus.

BE S.E.E.N. was established in 2012 in an effort to help students connect with the university. The earlier students become engaged and involved on campus, research reveals, the more likely they are to stay enrolled and complete their educations.
