College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences Welcomes New Ambassadors
Nine students have joined the prestigious ranks of the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences (CHBS) Ambassadors for the 2015-16 school year.
"This honor is bestowed upon vetted students who are bright, articulate, enthusiastic and positive," said CHBS Associate Dean Tod Burke. "Our ambassadors present a positive image and possess extensive knowledge about the college, their department/school and campus activities and programs."
With recommendations from chairs, directors and faculty members, these students represent the sharp academic performance and enthusiastic community spirit that the college values. Ambassadors must possess a minimum GPA of 3.2 and be active in at least one student organization or group.
The new ambassadors are:
- Evan Reid, political science
- Davis Spurlin, history
- Izzie Taveras, foreign languages and literatures
- Katelyn Dobbins, philosophy and religious studies
- Jessica Lanehart, interdisciplinary studies
- Heidi Warner, psychology
- Kevin Amaya, sociology
- Julianne O'Brien, criminal justice
- Daniel Willingham, communication
CHBS Ambassadors are advocates for the college to members of the campus community, future students and alumni. They represent the diversity of CHBS departments and programs.
Katelyn Dobbins, junior, is grateful for the opportunity to tell the world about CHBS successes as an ambassador.
"I love having the chance to tell my personal story from my time here at Radford while also getting to serve the greater campus community," Dobbins said. "Being an ambassador and taking on this role really means the world to me."
For Heidi Warner, junior, an ambassadorship allows her to show off the successes of the college.
"CHBS' greatest strength is its relevance to other colleges' fields of study," she said. "[My] study of psychology complements and relates to a significant number of other studies and helps to broaden and reconcile the perspectives of differing points of view. This trait also extends to the college as a whole."
As part of their duties, CHBS Ambassadors attend a variety of events such as the CHBS Ambassador Training Program; Highlander Days and Open Houses; Alumni Weekend events; major/minor fairs; Transfer Connect Conferences; Move-in Day at the beginning of the fall semester; CHBS Advisory Board Welcoming events; special CHBS-related receptions; and Commencement ceremonies.
