Radford University has been named one of the "30 Best Value Green Colleges" in the United States by Best Value Schools.

RU ranked No. 22 on the list of "colleges and universities who are the forefront in environmentally sustainable practices."

The website lauded Radford University for offering "sustainability education across several majors, and even in curricula outside the environmental sciences." Best Value Schools also touted RU’s Appalachian Events Committee, green-related campus clubs, university-sponsored trips into the New River Valley and the university’s sustainABILITY movie series.

"This recognition from Best Value Schools is yet another indicator of Radford University’s steadfast commitment to becoming a model for sustainable campuses in both the Commonwealth of Virginia and the United States," RU President Penelope W. Kyle said. "We are pleased that this organization examined our sustainability practices and ranked us among the top 30 best value green higher education institutions."

Best Value Schools took into consideration seven categories when ranking schools: net price; sustainability tracking, assessment and Rating System (STARS) Ranking; number of "green" majors; number of research centers and institutes with a sustainable focus; "green" student volunteer opportunities; outdoor/nature-focused recreational activities; and quality/quantity of environmental policies on campus.

"If you’re getting ready to apply to college and consider environmental friendliness a priority, this list is a great place to start," Best Value Schools said in announcing its rankings.

Best Value Schools aims to assist college-bound high school students and their families by providing "credible, actionable guidance in getting the greatest value from their education."
