Thanks to support and a grant from the Virginia Department of Education Radford University will again host the Virginia Summer Residential Governor's Schools in the Humanities and the Visual and Performing Arts.

Funding from the grant, a total of $714,504, will be used to help provide room and board for attendees, hire faculty and counselors and create programs for participating students.

"Receiving this generous grant from the Virginia Department of Education allows the Governor’s School at Radford University to bring the very best of Virginia’s rising juniors and seniors to Radford University for a rigorous month-long college experience," said Paul Thomas, Radford Governor's School director and associate professor of religious studies. "While here students will participate in a curriculum designed by Radford’s excellent faculty and will be immersed in the best that Radford has to offer."

Governor's School is a unique academic and social pre-collegiate experience that provides high school students with an early look at the college experience, academic challenges and the opportunity to live on campus for a month. The program begins on June 28 and continues through July 25.

Since 2010, Radford University has hosted the program, which gives junior and senior high school students the opportunity to use their creativity in music, visual and performing arts and the humanities. Students choose the classes that most pique their interest from a varied curriculum taught by RU faculty members and guest instructors.
