Master of Occupational Therapy Winter Class of 2014 posts perfect certification exam pass rate results

Graduates of the Radford University Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program have burnished the school’s reputation for excellence.

The entire Winter Class of 2014 of MOT graduates passed the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) test on their first attempt this spring. Passage of the test and NBCOT certification positions the 23 OT practitioners for licensure in all 50 states.

"They are certified, ready to be licensed and are ready to practice as the next generation of occupational therapists," said MOT chair Douglas Mitchell. "A truly hard-working, service-minded group of students."

The Class of 2014 was the largest cohort to graduate from the MOT program, health profession program that focuses on enabling people with special needs to do the occupations of daily life - care for themselves and their families and homes, to work, study and enjoy rest and play activities. Occupational therapists work with people of all ages in hospitals, schools and community agencies.

Mitchell said the class at graduation committed to a program of 16 hours of annual pro bono work in their communities to honor the MOT faculty and staff.

"These students had a zest for the profession," said Mitchell. "They exemplify the meaning and purpose of OT as a health care practice."

Waldron College of Health and Human Services Dean Ken Cox commended the accomplishment.

"Results like this demonstrate the hard work and dedication of both faculty and students to excellence. I am very proud of their successful contributions to preparing such outstanding occupational therapists and health care providers," said Cox.
