Radford University student Bradlee Rogers has received two prestigious awards in recognition of his outstanding academic record and community involvement.

Rogers recently was selected as a recipient of the Virginia Government Finance Officers' Association (VGFOA) Andrew T. Pettigrew Student Scholarship award. He was one of five Virginia college students chosen for the award, which is provided in honor of Pettigrew, a World War II Army veteran who had a remarkable career in accounting and finance.

Rogers, a junior accounting major from Springfield, also is among 15 recipients of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) Foundation Two Year Transfer Scholarship award.

The award, part of the AICPA's Legacy Scholars program, is given to students attending two-year colleges with a declared intent to major in accounting at a four-year college or university.

Through the AICPA Foundation, students will receive $3,000 toward their tuition for the 2015-2016 school year. Rogers was selected for this award out of more than 700 applicants.

Rogers transferred to Radford University from the Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) Annandale campus this fall after completing his Associate of Business Administration degree summa cum laude, with a 4.0 GPA, and completing the honors core curriculum.

"Bradlee was chosen for this award based on his 4.0 GPA at NVCC and an excellent reference from one of his accounting professors there," said RU Assistant Professor of Accounting Ann Shawver. "The committee was particularly impressed with the thought put into his essay, which included outlining his career goals and future work in the government sector which is an award criteria."

Rogers said, "I am honored to receive these two awards as they are provided by prestigious organizations that are so very highly respected in the accounting and finance communities. These awards will also provide valuable, much appreciated and needed resources toward accomplishing my academic goals."
