The Department of General Services, Division of Purchases and Supply recently recognized Radford University's Department of Procurement and Contracts for advancing the process for purchasing goods and services in the Commonwealth.

The division presented the inaugural Procurement Xcelerator Awards during the 2014 Public Procurement Forum in Hampton on Nov. 17.

The awards were designed to recognize how the power of procurement is being leveraged to meet the strategic goals of public agencies and to highlight the outstanding contributions of employees at state agencies, local governments and higher education institutions in advancing efficiency and effectiveness in their supply chains.

RU was awarded the Statewide Electronic Procurement "eVA" Award, which recognizes an agency/team that successfully uses eVA, the electronic Virginia procurement system, to advance procurement.

The award states that: Radford University's Department of Procurement and Contracts achieved a significant increase in productivity for creating procurements as well as those approving expenditures by taking full advantage of eVA’s capabilities among its 250 users across campus.  The electronic checks and balances implemented through the internal approval process were expanded into a best practice model across most account codes.  A strong, ongoing training program ensures users are knowledgeable of the system, kept updated on all process and system changes.  The use of eVA has resulted in increased efficiencies from the creation of a purchase requisition, to purchase order, to integration to the university financial system, to the receiving of goods and services, to the payment processing, to reporting and analyzing.

"I am very happy that Radford University is the first recipient of this award," said Kathy Burnett, eVa account executive. "This award recognizes the hard work, commitment and dedication of the staff in Procurement and Contracts as well as each and every eVA account holder on campus.  It was a true honor to have been present at the annual procurement forum to accept this award on behalf of Radford University.  It is an even bigger honor to work with the campus eVA users and realize their dedication, hard work and commitment, which has been recognized at the state level and which has resulted in this award."
