As a child, Raymond Boisvert drove past the Radford University sign at Exit 109 every time he visited his grandparents in North Carolina, but it wasn’t until he began his college search that RU became more than just a landmark on his journey.

“I knew in high school that I didn't want to go to a large school,” Boisvert said. “I feel like I thrive in small classes with direct access to instructors during teaching. I decided to take a tour of Radford’s campus and absolutely loved it. It was everything I wanted from a college.”

Although he wasn’t entirely sure what subject he wanted to study when he came to campus, he knew he wanted to study business in some way.

“I always considered myself a bit of an entrepreneur in high school so I started as a management major,” he said. “I got involved in the Student Managed Investment Portfolio Organization (SMIPO) the second semester of my freshman year and it really opened my eyes to the opportunities that awaited me if I switch to a slightly more ‘technical’ major.” After talking to his parents, Boisvert ended up switching his major to finance to challenge himself and, as he says, “hopefully open a few more doors when I graduate.”

With graduation on the horizon, Boisvert says continuing his education is definitely on his radar; however, his focus now is geared toward finding a job. He is completing an internship this summer at Geico to help gain experience in his field. He hopes to harness his education, his experience with SMIPO and his work with Geico to find the career of his dreams.

“I’d really like to get into the Geico Emerging Leaders Program,” he said. “If not, I would like to go to Charlotte, N.C., or Atlanta, Ga., and get into banking or insurance.”
