Need to travel to Blacksburg or Christiansburg? Riding with Radford Transit is both convenient and affordable. Students, faculty and staff with a Radford University identification card can ride the bus at no cost. Visit the Radford Transit website for bus schedules, routes and more information. Radford Transit also connects with the Megabus to Washington D.C.
Blacksburg Transit (BT) provides students with more extensive transporation throughout Blacksburg and Christiansburg than Radford Transit. BT has 46 buses that serve 13 routes in Blacksburg and Christiansburg. Passengers can use BT to make connections to other bus lines, with service to places such as Roanoke and Washington, D.C.
The Virginia Breeze is a new intercity bus service connecting Blacksburg with Union Station in Washington D.C. The daily route includes several stops in the New River Valley, Shenandoah Valley and Northern Virginia.
The Virginia Breeze will make daily morning departures from the Virginia Tech Squires Student Center, located at 290 College Ave. in Blacksburg at 8 a.m., and arrive at the Union Station Washington D.C. bus deck at 2:30 p.m. A second, southbound bus will depart Union Station at 9:20 a.m. daily, making the reverse trip and arriving at the Squires Student Center by 3:40 p.m.
The Smart Way bus connects Blacksburg to the Roanoke Regional Airport and the Megabus route to Washington, D.C. The Smart Way bus operates Monday through Saturday and provides transportation between Virginia Tech and the Roanoke Valley for $4 each way. Smart Way offers a special transfer option to allow travelers returning to the airport on a Sunday to use the Roanoke/Blacksburg Airport Shuttle for $4.
Megabus serves a network of stops along the East Coast via an affordable bus. The Christiansburg Park and Ride, which is accessible by the Smart Way bus and Blacksburg Transit’s The Explorer route, serves as a Megabus stop for buses traveling to Washington D.C.; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Atlanta. Connections can be made at these stops to reach further destinations.
The Amtrak station in Roanoke, Virginia can be reached via the the Smart Way bus in Blacksburg. The Smart Way bus operates Monday through Saturday and provides transportation between Virginia Tech and the Roanoke Valley for $4 each way.
Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport
The Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport is the nearest major airport to Radford University. The Roanoke Airport offers daily flights to eight major American cities, including Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, Atlanta and Washington, D.C. Students can reach the Roanoke Airport from Virginia Tech by riding the Smart Way bus for $4. There are also car rental options through Enterprise Rent-A-Car on campus.
