Transfer Students

We are excited that you are continuing your education at Radford University.  The following information is provided to help you through the enrollment process as you transition from one school to the next.

Radford University requires that transfer students complete the normal application process. Regardless of the semester you plan to enroll transfers should follow the standard application process and can use the following check list as a reference to ensure they are on track for receiving financial aid at Radford University.  The Financial Aid Office will not begin processing your FAFSA until you have completed the admissions process.

IMPORTANT: The 2024-2025 FAFSA filing and aid notice process is unique!

The redesigned 2024-2025 FAFSA opened on December 30, 2023 and is now widely available for students and families to complete.

All higher education institutions were notified on January 30, 2024 that we will not receive FAFSA data until mid-March 2024.  This will delay all financial aid application review and aid offers.  We will communicate with students and families when we know more about the timeline for FAFSA processing.

  • Make sure that Radford University's institution code (003732) is included on the FAFSA when it is filed.
    • If your FAFSA has already been filed, you can submit a correction by accessing your submitted FAFSA
    • Make sure that this is done by the priority deadline for the term you plan to enroll.
    • Fall semester start: File your FAFSA by the priority deadline of March 1st.
    • Spring semester start: File your FAFSA by the priority deadline of December 1st
  • Contact the financial aid office at the school that you are attending.
    • If financial aid has been awarded to you at the school for the semester that you will be coming to RU, you will need to have it canceled.
    • Discuss how to complete any exit interview requirements for loans that you received at the previous school.
  • Monitor your application process using OneCampus, the Radford University portal
Each student transferring to Radford has a different experience and we want to help you understand our process so you know what to expect.
  • Transfer Scholarships are awarded by the Office of Admissions.  You can learn more about transfer scholarship eligibility requirements on our website.
  • Student's transferring from a Virginia Community College are eligible to apply for the Virginia Two Year Transfer Grant.  The application can be downloaded from the SCHEV website and submitted to our office for review.
  • Our deadlines and requirements are different than what you may have previously experienced.  Familiarize yourself with our financial aid timeline to understand how and when we process applications and aid.

For Second Degree Seeking Students:

  • If you have received a bachelor's degree previously, you are still eligible to receive financial aid, but there are exceptions.
  • Once you have recieved a bachelor's degree you are no longer eligible for the Pell Grant, SEOG, or state funding.
  • You are still eligible for federal student loans, but if you used loans on a previous degree you may be reaching the total limit of your student loan availability.
  • Second degree students can be eligible for scholarships, but some scholarship opportunities like the Transfer Excellence, Phi Theta Kappa, and Highlander Distinction awards are for first degree seeking students only.  Scholarships will likely specify the requirements for the award in the description.
  • Second degree students can still be eligible for Federal Work Study positions, but you will want to check with your program to see if a work study position is recommended.
