The Department of Music’s music therapy program recently participated in two new Radford University symposiums.

The music therapy program was part of the Radford University’s inaugural Interprofessional Gerontology Symposium. Patricia Winter, assistant professor of music therapy, and Shey Dillon, a graduate student in music therapy, presented posters April 10.

“Music Therapy for the care of those with Alzheimer’s and Dementia” was the title of Winter’s poster. Dillon’s was “The use of Music Therapy to promote quality of life for older adults in Nursing Homes.”

Winter was also involved in Radford University’s Waldron College Interprofessional Symposium and Expo. With Corey Cassidy, associate dean of the Waldron College of Health and Human Services and COSD associate professor, as co-author, Winter presented a poster and paper titled “The impact of an interprofessional speech-language pathology and music therapy caregiver-training program on the generalization of skills by families, a qualitative evaluation.”

Students from the Music Therapy Student Organization presented a music therapy table in the Waldron Symposium Expo space.
