Mr. Peter Shanahan

Peter Shanahan serves as the instructor of flute at Radford University. He is a member of the Western Piedmont Symphony and a frequent performer with the Asheville Symphony, Winston-Salem Symphony, and Greensboro Symphony. Mr. Shanahan has previously served as the instructor of flute at Guilford College, Piedmont International University, and the Music Academy of North Carolina.  He has presented recitals and masterclasses at the Long Island Conservatory, Davidson College, High Point University, and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.  His teaching style can be described as high-energy, positive, and encouraging. He strives to help all students express themselves on their instrument by developing a deep, natural, and resonant tone with great projection, while mastering light and rapid finger technique. Mr. Shanahan also focuses on teaching methods and pedagogy, helping students develop the professional skills necessary for any working musician.
