Cara Ellen Modisett, a Shenandoah Valley native, returned to Virginia in 2016 following two years in Memphis, Tennessee. Music director of St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Roanoke, she has performed in venues including the Manhattan School of Music, the U.S. Army Band’s Brucker Hall, the University of Memphis, the University of Richmond and Hollins University. She has performed in ensembles including the Washington & Lee Symphony Orchestra and pit orchestras for Mill Mountain Theater and W&L, and has music directed for Roanoke Children’s Theater.

In addition to a B.M. in piano performance from the James Madison University School of Music, she holds a B.A. in English and an M.F.A. in creative nonfiction. For more than a decade, Ms. Modisett was by turns a reporter/producer, classical announcer and concert organizer for WVTF public radio. She has taught English at Ferrum College and Community High School of Arts and Academics, and beginning in May, joins the staff of St. John’s Episcopal in Roanoke as director of communications.
