Richard Roth

Retired Professor

Dr. Roth holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia, and from Virginia Tech, a Master of Urban and Regional Planning and a Ph.D. in Environmental Design and Planning. He is active in a number of conservation organizations and has research interests in watershed planning, rivers, and sustainability, particularly as it pertains to local government planning.

Dr. Roth came to Radford University in 1993 and served until May 2020. In the spring of 2022 Dr. Roth rejoined the department in emeritus status. He enjoys mentoring students and teaching a few classes.

During his active years of teaching he was most associated with GEOG 140: Introduction to Environmental Studies, GEOG 202: Commonwealth of Virginia, GEOS 362: Water Resources, and GEOS 492: Land Use

Dr. Roths's research interests revolve around sustainable water resources management, local government planning for sustainability, green infrastructure planning
