Research Interests:
The Kennedy group has recently focused on investigating potential natural product inhibitors of sugar cleaving glucosidase enzymes. Natural products are often utilized as the starting point for drug discovery; in this case we are targeting sugar metabolism disorders, such as diabetes, with algal phlorotannin derivatives. The successful approach to this project will involve aspects of biochemistry, organic chemistry, and computational chemistry. I am also very interested in pursuing green chemistry projects as well as research in chemical education.
