Students receive biology research awards
This year's recipient pf the Ruth Bricker Painter Award is Skyler Carrell. His research project is entitiles "Exploring the role of juvenile hormone as a potential regulating factor in the multidimensional sociality of spiders." Support for this $3000 award comes from an endowment established by Ruth Bricker Painter, who was a 1928 graduate of Radford College and a high school science teacher.
Six students also received $1000 student research awards, for the following projects:
- Ruth Boylan - Surveying bird populations in different areas of the Peruvian Amazon rainforest through bioacoustic measurement
- Cameron Brown - Does size matter?: A look at meal regulation in juvenile snakes
- Heather Custer - Acoustic surveys of summer bat communities at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant
- Ricky Miller - Anesthesia in terrestrial salamanders: Are all modes equal?
- Conner Philson - Impact of anthropogenic disturbances on primate feeding behaviors measured via a custom-designed micro-computer enabled feeding device
- Christopher Smith - Calcium oxalate in petioles in deciduous leaves
