High Impact Practices

The Office of High Impact Practices (HIPs), a division of Academic Programs, was developed in 2014 to support and promote the development of transformational undergraduate educational experiences within and beyond the classroom.

Experiential learning has deep roots in the Radford University experience with a long history of dedicated and passionate faculty committed to engaging their students, both inside and outside the classroom, exposing them to “doing” their disciplines, showing them the world and assisting in their growth to becoming engaged citizens.

The office of HIPs allows us to better harness and leverage the power of these profound pedagogical practices at Radford University and to make more intentional our support and promotion of these activities for interested faculty and students. Through collaborations across university divisions and colleges and partnering with a variety of community organizations, HIPs offers an array of opportunities to get involved as well as a space and a place for the campus to come together and engage in multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary work.

Get engaged through the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Activities (OURS), the International Education Center (IEC), the Scholar Citizen Initiative (SCI), the Honors Academy (HA), ePortfolios, and through Learning Communities.

Our goal is to ensure that all Radford University students have access to and engage in multiple quality high impact practices in their academic career and gain the relevant academic knowledge, skills and dispositions they need to be career-ready and engaged citizens upon graduation. Equally important, we aim to provide the necessary resources and support for faculty to learn about and deliver these high-quality experiences for our students within and beyond the classroom.
