As a student athlete, dedication, discipline, and hard work were the driving force behind Kelby Jackson’s success. As she enters the next phase of her education, she plans to succeed with the same work ethic in mind.

Jackson, a distinguished member of the Radford University Women’s Volleyball team, and accomplished student, graduated cum laude in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise, Sport, and Health Education with a concentration in Sport Administration, in only three years. She now is pursuing a Master of Science degree in the Corporate and Professional Communication program and is expected to complete her degree by May 2018.

Throughout her time on the Volleyball team, Jackson maintained an overall GPA of 3.7. She credits her organizational skills and discipline as the key to her success.

“I was extremely dedicated to my classes and staying on top of my work. As a graduate student, I carry that same work ethic in maintaining my grades and I am determined to be successful within the program,” Jackson said.

Jackson stood out not only academically, but also athletically during her time as an undergraduate student. She was chosen as the Big South All-Academic Team representative from Radford University in 2016. Jackson also broke the All-Time Career Digs record for Radford University with 1,651 career digs.

As a graduate student in the Corporate and Professional Communication program, Jackson is working as a Graduate Assistant in the Research Compliance Office in the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences. She is trained with the Institutional Review Board and The Institutional Animal Care and Use. Jackson is also certified in the web content management system and updates the Radford IRB web page.

Jackson is also working with the Radford Athletic Department as a marketing intern and with university advancement and alumni. After graduate school Jackson hopes to work in an athletic department at a university.

“I have many options that I could go into within the athletic department because of the experience I currently have and the experience that I will gain in the near future,” Jackson said.

Looking back at her time so far at Radford University Jackson expressed her love of the campus, community, professors, students, and her time on the volleyball team.

“The best decision I ever made was coming to play volleyball at Radford University,” Jackson said.

Jackson’s dedication to her own continued success has provided her with the opportunity to reach any goal she sets, and she has served as a true example of what hard work can create.

“I work extremely hard to be successful. Volleyball has taught me to outwork and outlast the competition and has sharpened my mental and physical abilities. I accomplished many things that many people said that I wouldn’t, and I continue to prove some people wrong. I carry that mentality with me into the classroom,” Jackson said.
