Anytime professors have trouble with the technology in the new College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences (CHBS) building, he’s usually the first person on the scene. He walks hastily into the classroom where his assistance is needed with a huge grin on his face, solves whatever technological issues may be present, and returns to his office, located on the first floor of the CHBS building.

This tech-savvy individual is Jeremy Jennings. Jennings was hired on Aug. 17 as a technology specialist, specifically for Radford University’s newest academic building.

Jennings grew up in Christiansburg, where he attended Christiansburg High School. During his time there, he was heavily involved in sports. “I played soccer, football for one season, and ran track,” he said. Jennings was a standout athlete on the track and earned a scholarship to a small institution in Tennessee. However, his college track career was short-lived. “I got hurt and ended up losing my scholarship.”

In the fall of 2011, Jennings transferred to Radford University’s School of Communication, where he majored in media studies with a concentration in production technology. He graduated in the fall of 2013. After receiving his degree, Jennings did some freelance work before landing a job at TheStreet.com, a financial news website that is headquartered in the heart of New York City.

“Living in New York was a big change from what I’m used to, but it was fun. My office was right on Wall Street and I got to visit the Stock Exchange many times,” Jennings said.

While working at TheStreet.com, Jennings was responsible for the website’s online content, as well as setting up studios for live broadcasts.

Jennings eventually left TheStreet.com and returned to the New River Valley, where he worked part-time in Radford’s School of Communication. His loyalty to his alma mater was rewarded when he was hired as a full-time employee in mid-August of 2016.

In his current role as a technology specialist, Jennings oversees all of the technology in the CHBS building. “I’m responsible for the TV studio, the courtroom, both audio and video editing suites, the focus group rooms. Pretty much any room with technology in it, I’m responsible for,” he chuckled.

Jennings plans to pursue a Master of Science degree in corporate and professional communication beginning in the fall of 2017. He says that, as of now, his sole focus is on Radford, however, he would eventually like to move to a medium-sized city. “Somewhere like Charlotte or Atlanta would be a good fit for me.” Jennings’ goal is to become a studio engineer at a local news station.

In his free time, Jennings enjoys hiking, camping, fishing and playing with his dog Rousey, a Boxer who is named after famed mixed martial artist Rhonda Rousey.

Jennings has accomplished great things since he graduated from Radford. He is a proud alumnus of the Highlander family and attributes much of his success to the skills he’s acquired at the university.
