Jon Poole is a Professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance.  He taught previously at both the University of Utah and Virginia Tech before arriving at Radford University in 2000.

Jon serves as the Coordinator for the K-12 Physical and Health Education (PHED) Program. He has long been an advocate for a more coordinated approach to teaching physical education and health education in K-12 schools with his professional interests including promoting physically active and healthy living for K-12 students, health-related fitness education, and teaching lifetime sports and physical activities.  He regularly consults with schools and school districts interested in health-related fitness education.  Jon has contributed dozens of articles and presentations at regional and national conferences over the past 30 years and served as one of the contributors to the nationally known PELinks4U website (www.pelinks4u.org).

Jon has been a recipient of a University Service Learning Educator Award (Virginia Tech, 1997), the Virginia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance College Physical Educator of the Year Award (1999), and the College of Education and Human Development Outstanding Teaching Award (Radford University, 2007).

Closer to home, Jon is married to Dr. Kathleen Poole, also a Professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance at Radford University. Jon and Kathleen have two adult children, Kenny and Kyle, with whom they enjoy a wide variety of physical activities including playing tennis, golfing, running, hiking, skiing, and bicycling among other activities.
