Radford University Thanks Its Donors
“There are so many personal reasons to give. However, there is one common theme in all of your generosity and that is Radford University,” said Radford University President Penelope W. Kyle to guests at the annual stewardship event held at the Governor Tyler House on Saturday, April 23.
“Thank you so much for providing opportunities for our students to grow, excel and reach their potential,” continued President Kyle.
The University welcomed over 150 of its most generous supporters – alumni, friends, faculty and staff – to the event hosted by the Radford University Foundation. Invitees included donors who have given $1,000 or more during this or the last fiscal year, lifetime donors of $25,000 or more, and Members of the Society of 1910, which recognizes alumni and friends who have included Radford University in their estate plans.
“All of us on the board are dedicated to supporting Radford University and making sure that your generosity is used by the academic, athletic and student programs that need it the most,” said Dale Parris ’85, M.S. ’11, vice president of the Radford University Foundation Board of Directors and director of development for the YMCA of the Roanoke Valley.
Every guest’s reason for giving was as varied as the guests themselves.
“I’m not a Radford University graduate, but I am attracted to University’s friendly atmosphere and its music department,” explained Johann Norstedt, who endowed a voice scholarship named in memory of his late wife. “I know that my donations are appreciated at Radford University,” he continued.
Alumna Patricia Honts ’68 gives because she “enjoyed time here as a student. I am so pleased with the progress that the University has made.” She added, “Radford University continues to make me feel important to its growth and future.”
President Kyle closed the celebration for her final time by explaining just how important each donation is to the success and future of Radford University.
“During the last fiscal year, supporters of the university gave more than $5.1 million to make a difference in the lives of our students and the future of our programs,” explained President Kyle. “You have donated to facility enhancements, scholarships, academic and student life programs, our athletics and some of the greatest needs of the University as they have arisen.
“This evening is dedicated to all of you! Thank you!”
