RU Welcomes Family and Friends for Special Weekend
RADFORD -- Hundreds of families and friends will come to Radford University on October 10-12 to share a slice of RU life for Family Weekend. For over 30 years, the campus community has enjoyed this weekend tradition that offers many activities, including academic presentations, dance and theatrical performances, music, athletic events, and this year, the 24th Annual Appalachian Folk Arts Festival and the 13th Annual Radford Highlanders Festival. Weekend events begin on Friday with the President's Opening Reception, sponsored by Balfour. The annual “Outstanding Parent(s) of the Year” award, sponsored by the Student Government Association, will be presented at the reception. The evening continues with the Ring Ceremony for juniors, Fall Dance Fest and the RU Theatre Department’s play On the Verge. On Saturday, there are activities for every age, including planetarium shows, a billiards tournament, the Fall Fashion Show, a 5K run and an evening Celtic Rock concert by performers Seven Nations and Scythian. Visitors can also experience the City of Radford through a variety of events, including the Highlanders Festival, co-sponsored by the City of Radford and Radford University. The festival is a great way to experience Scots-Irish culture through traditional events, including the Heavyweight games, music, food, a Scottish Clan gathering and more. Check out the Highlanders Festival schedule online. To learn more about Family Weekend and to view the full schedule of events, visit the Family Weekend website. |
