"Taste for Diversity" Highlights RU Celebration

RADFORD -- RU’s Diversity Week celebration concludes on Friday, Sept. 28 with a Taste for Diversity, an enlightening and entertaining evening of music, dance and food. The event is in Muse Banquet Hall, 4 - 6 p.m.

The campus community is invited to come out and sample international fare with a new twist -- it’s all being prepared and served by our men on campus. Over 20 talented “chefs” representing the university, including Wil Stanton and Steve Lerch (Office of the Provost), Ken Bonk (Student Activities), Darrell Thorpe (Multicultural and International Student Services), Men’s basketball coaches and student-athletes, including Colby Trent, and Greek representatives from PHC and NPHC, among others will come together to share some of their favorite international recipes.  Caribbean jerk chicken, Polish sausage peppers and Ethiopian beef tips are few specialties on the menu as well as specially prepared foods from China, Ghana, North and South America and Italy.

“A Taste for Diversity is truly an example of Radford University’s zeal for inclusion and collaboration. Many departments, student affairs and academic affairs have come together for this student-driven initiative,” says director of Multicultural and International Student Services Darrell Thorpe.

The event tops off Diversity Week, RU’s annual celebration of cultural diversity. Entertainment will include belly dancing, hip-hop dancing by AREUHYPE!, African dancing, a martial arts demonstration and more. During Taste for Diversity, participants will be asked to share what diversity means to them.
