Radford Highlanders Festival Weekend Features New Events
RADFORD The 12th annual Radford Highlanders Festival is Saturday, Oct. 13, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., on Radford University’s Moffett Quad. Featured musical entertainment will be Beggars’ Circus, The Celtibillies, Warpipe and the Virginia Highlands Pipes and Drum Band.
“A Taste of the Highlands . . . Radford Style” is Friday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m., at Ken Farmer Auction House, 105 Harrison St., Radford. This premier event features Scotch, wine and Celtic beer tastings, courtesy of Vintage Cellars, a sampling of heavy hors d’oeuvres and music. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door and can be purchased by calling Main Street Radford at (540) 731-3656. A pancake breakfast is 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. in Norwood Square, downtown. The menu includes a hefty serving of pancakes, sausage and juice for $6. Local merchants will have sidewalk sales, children’s games are planned and local produce and crafts will be available for purchase at the Radford Farmers Market in the square. The festival begins with Scottish heavy athletics on Moffett Field. The concert schedule is as follows: Beggars’ Circus (top right photo), 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.; The Celtibillies (bottom right photo), 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.; Scottish clan march led by Virginia Highlands Pipe and Drum Band, noon; and Warpipe (see photo below), 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. A gathering of Scottish clans and more than 25 arts, craft and food vendors are part of the day’s program.
