RADFORD -- Radford University will welcome over 400 families to campus for Family Weekend on October 5-7.  For over 30 years, RU students and their families have enjoyed this weekend tradition as an opportunity to spend time together in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Held in the fall of each year, Family Weekend is a time for students to share a slice of RU life and the community with family and friends. Many activities are scheduled, including campus tours, dance and theatrical performances, athletic events and the 22nd annual Folk Arts Festival.

Weekend events begin on Friday with the Ring Ceremony for juniors, Fall Dance Fest and the RU Theatre Department’s play All My Sons, featuring guest artist Conrad John Schuck. There are activities for every age, including planetarium shows, a billiards tournament, a visit to RU’s Museum of the Earth Sciences, the Fall Fashion Show and a comedy and magic show. The annual “Outstanding Parent(s) of the Year” award, sponsored by the Student Government Association and the RU Family Association, will be presented at Saturday’s reception followed by the Family Weekend Banquet and a performance by comedians/magicians Spike and Hammer.

Family Weekend promises to be a great time for all. Visitors can also experience the City of Radford through a variety of events, including the Downtown Fall Bazaar with the Farmer’s Market and sidewalk sales, and bike riding or canoeing on the Riverway at Bisset Park and hiking at Wildwood Park.
